This year’s conference will mark 30 years since the internet came to Serbia. Alongside a look at emerging technologies, we will revisit the early days with the people who established the first connections and laid the foundations of Serbia’s digital landscape.
New challenges for networks
Dženan Dževlan, AWS Hero and co-founder of allOps, led Yahoo’s Production Engineering team, whose AWS infrastructure served more than 700 million users a month. Drawing on that experience, he will take us behind the scenes of AWS’s global network and show how it really works and how far we can rely on the cloud. Branimir Rajtar from HRNOG and 5×9 Networks will show how to achieve terabit throughput using standard server hardware, sharing the unexpected bottlenecks encountered along the way and the changes to software, hardware and architecture that made such performance possible.
Miroslav Vujović, Chief Network Architect at CETIN, will explore the development of mobile internet across network generations, from GPRS to 5G. Drawing on a quarter-century of experience, he will share the challenges each new generation brought and the lessons learned along the way. To close this segment, a representative of global network operator RETN will explain how traffic growth and the rise of AI are shaping the development of operators’ networks.
Cybersecurity and AI in SOC Operations
The cybersecurity programme will open with a guest speaker from WEDOS, who will use examples from several industries to examine the anatomy of modern DDoS attacks, their impact on businesses and everyday life, and the challenges of protecting services and infrastructure.
Experts from Pulsec and Nova Defense will discuss how AI is changing the work of SOC teams and to what extent, how much we can trust it, and where analysts’ experience and judgement remain essential.
AI infrastructure and services in Serbia
AI infrastructure in Serbia will be a particular focus of this year’s RSNOG. What sovereign AI capacity is currently available, how is it being used, and what is in the pipeline? Representatives of Data Cloud Technology, Orion AI Factory, Telekom Srbija and Yettel will discuss practical applications and the trends operators are seeing, new platforms and partnerships, the development of in-house AI teams, and plans for the future.
The newly established Data Centre Association of Serbia will provide the wider context, introducing its goals and activities and reviewing European trends, installed capacity and major upcoming projects in Serbia.
Three decades of the internet in Serbia, told by its pioneers
How was email “smuggled” through during the sanctions, how did the university network and the first internet service providers emerge, and how did Serbia reconnect with the world after the sanctions? We will explore these questions with the people directly involved: the pioneers who brought the internet to Serbia and laid the foundations of the digital landscape we now take for granted.
The programme will close with the traditional prize quiz, testing knowledge of networking, cybersecurity and internet culture, followed by a networking cocktail reception.
The twelfth RSNOG conference is organised by the Serbian Network Operators Group, with the patronage of the RNIDS Foundation and Serbian Open eXchange.
Conference sponsors are Pulsec powered by Telekom Srbija, Team Cymru, Unicom Telecom, Yettel and ICANN.
Friends of the conference are Data Cloud Technology, CETIN, RETN, RIPE NCC, Unlimited.rs, WEDOS, Orion Telekom, Beenet and Zelendata center.
Attendance is free of charge, but registration is required.
